As the long, energetic days of spring and summer evolve into the preparation for autumn, golden earth tones begin to surround us and the energy of autumn contemplation starts to set in.

Autumn is traditionally a time to store energy for the colder months ahead and is a time to focus and create. These months can be a time of calmness with enormous benefits to our wellbeing. Use these months to embark on activities that correspond with change.

It is a season when taking time out to plan is just as important as the physical completion of the task. "Ask not for a larger garden, but for finer seeds", recommends Russell H Conwell.

Enjoy the journey

A LITTLE BEAUTY RENEWAL
As we feel the change from a warm summer breeze to a cool autumn wind, and we linger over a Prada or YSL boot this autumn, it is important to remind ourselves of the necessity to amend our beauty routine and diet in these drier months.

With the potential to carry this dryness through to the winter months it's time to focus on increasing your intake of nuts and seeds, as well as making a change to your morning routine. In these times of low-fat and no-fat eating plans (yes, I'm guilty too!), a vital source of the essential fatty acids (EFA's) found in these foods is necessary to provide the body with the natural lubricants required for optimum wellbeing. On the most basic level, an eating plan poor in EFAs will leave you vulnerable to the wear and tear of stress and the coming winter flu season.

Dull, dry skin over this period can also play havoc with a frenzied social calendar or warm nights by the fire. This need not be the case, with just a little change to your beauty regime. A regular facial incorporating a deep cleanse, exfoliation, massage and mask every 4-6 weeks will restore the skin and keep it hydrated. A regular intensive skin treatment once every 6-8 weeks will target specific areas more effectively, eliminate toxins and alleviate the tight, dry feeling we often experience during Autumn and Winter.

How does the more 'intense' facial differ from the basic facial?

This treatment focuses on fine lines and moisturising the dry and/or dehydrated areas. The treatment begins with a spinal application of a self heating mud that is left to bubble away for the full duration of the treatment (1.5hrs) and is the component of this treatment that all our clients rave about. The self heating mud is a combination of active marine ingredients that are applied to the spine to draw out toxins and release muscle tension in the lower, mid and upper back.

With the self heating mud bubbling away, the focus is then on your face, with active seaweed extracts applied to open up the pores and cleanse away the dry, dead layer of skin. A cleanse and exfoliation will follow with a massage and mask to further remove impurities and set the scene for hydration. With a choice of carefully selected products to suit the sensitivities of your skin, you can expect to tone, lift and regenerate the skin, assisting the outer layer fight the effects of premature aging.

Inspire your natural beauty this Autumn with an intensive skin treatment at Aurora.

TREATMENT REVIEW
Reiki

What is it?
Reiki is a healing modality. It is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy. It is an energy of wholeness bypassing the symptom and going to the cause. It fills the vibratory need and restores the being.

Reiki is the laying on of hands. The client is able to draw the energy through 'the channel'. The energy will go where it is needed. You may perceive it in a variety of ways - from hot to cold through to tingling or colour. Every time may be a different experience. Any person is able to be a channel. What is required are four ‘fine tunings’ - transmissions of energy that reactivate our memory of that which is within us. The bonus for the channel is that they fill up first and then the overflow is available to the client. So there is a constant recharging of batteries. We affectionately refer to having a Reiki as ‘having a zap'.

At Aurora our therapists are Reiki channels, so with every treatment there is the opportunity for healing and transformation. Our clients call it 'out of this world'. For us, it is our contribution to making this world a more peaceful, beautiful place.

“I Could Do Anything - If Only I Knew What It Was”,
written by Barbara Sher.

This extraordinary book is designed to help you identify and achieve your life aspirations. As well as offering practical advice, success secrets and motivational techniques, Barabara Sher describes a number of ways to peel away the layers, reveal your hopes and aspirations, and discover what has been holding you back.

This book is for those who want to find their passion. It is a step-by-step guide for restructuring one's life so that it has meaning, direction and joy. Choose a path that will lead you straight to a life that's perfect for you, a life you deserve…..a life you will love!

Excerpt from the introduction:

"This book is designed to help you find the good life. By that, I don't mean swimming pools, mansions, and private jets - unless those are really your big passions. But if you picked up a book called “I Could Do Anything If I Only Knew What It Was”, you're probably looking for a lot more than a swimming pool. You want a life you will love."

Then when you have completed this practical guide it's time to move to the next level with the follow up book: “Live the Life you Love - And Stop Just Getting By”.

Both of these books are popular sellers at Aurora and all yours to read in our reflection lounge. See if you can get through one of them in one sitting!

A Ruffled Mind Makes a Restless Pillow

If busy days have you waking too soon and keep you from those dreams of well behaved kids and an empty in tray, you might want to consider some ancient sleep therapies that really work.

With all the planning and mental energy required for the months of autumn, it is important to find the balance between mental stimulation and rest for the mind. Rest is where there is absolutely nothing required of you. It is the primary source of re-charge for the body. Rest is different for everybody and can include activities like massage or a siesta.

How can we help you rest?
Sleep pillows are a traditional favorite and can have a great effect. The ideal sleep pillow is a flat pillow casing containing loose herbs. Tucked under the pillow, the crushed dried leaves and buds release their scent, assisting with the journey to slumber every time you lay your head upon your pillow or turn over.

So next time you can't sleep you may want to try a sleep pillow recipe:

Half a dozen dried flowers, herbs and spices typically recur in centuries worth of instructions for sleep pillows. One you might like to try could be a mixture of rose petal and leaves, lavender, cloves, rosemary, peppermint and lemon verbena. Each of the dried ingredients is a relaxant, with the lavender and peppermint also helping to repel mosquitoes.

If the bliss trigger that might help you stop losing sleep is still a mystery, be willing to experiment until you find the right one. Often, it's right under your nose.

SPA CAFÉ

Even though pears, zucchinis, capsicums and cauliflowers are coming into season, we have opted for a recipe that is perfect to enjoy while sitting down with a cup of herbal tea and taking control of your autumn plan. The following recipe is taken from "The Self Healing Cookbook", by Kristina Turner. This book is described as; "The perfect gift for the doctor who wonders if food really does matter, the weekend gourmet who dabbles in vegetarian fare, or that special friend who wants to be lovingly humoured towards a more fulfilling, natural lifestyle."

Raisin Cookies
1/4 cup bio-dynamic oats
1/2 cup organic raisins or currants
3/4 cup purified water
1/8 teaspoon Celtic Sea Salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoon sesame oil
1/2 cup light wheat flour
1/2 cup leftover cooked brown rice
3 tablespoon sunflower seeds
3-4 tablespoon rice or barley malt syrup

Method:
Lightly roast oats by stirring in a stainless steel frypan over medium heat until they are hot but not browned. (This brings out the flavour and makes them more easily digestible). Process them for a short time in a food processor to make fine flakes. Boil water and pour over the oats and raisins and let sit for 10 minutes. Mix in salt, cinnamon, oil and barley malt syrup. Then add flour, rice and seeds. Shape by the spoonful into round, flat cookies on an oiled baking sheet. Bake 25 minutes at 375° or until lightly browned. Serve with a cup of green tea for a delicious morning tea.
